Dental Emergency? Here’s What to Do (And How We Can Help)

Toothaches never happen at a good time. Whether it’s a chipped tooth before an important meeting or a sharp pain that keeps you up all night, dental emergencies can feel overwhelming.

At Concord Dental & Orthodontics, we’re here to take the stress out of the situation. We offer same-day emergency care because when you’re in pain, you deserve quick answers and real relief.

Here’s what counts as a dental emergency, what you can do right away, and how we can help you feel better fast.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Not every tooth issue needs urgent care, but there are a few signs you shouldn’t ignore. Call us if you’re dealing with any of the following:

  • A severe, persistent toothache
  • A tooth that’s been knocked out or feels loose
  • A cracked, chipped, or broken tooth
  • A lost filling or crown
  • Swelling in the gums, jaw, or face
  • Bleeding that won’t stop
  • Signs of infection like pus, fever, or a bad taste in your mouth

When in doubt, give us a call. We’re happy to talk it through and help you figure out the next step.

What to Do Before You Get to the Office

Emergencies don’t always wait until normal hours, so here are a few things you can do on your own before coming in:

  • Tooth knocked out? Gently rinse the tooth with water. Don’t scrub it. If possible, place it back in the socket. If not, store it in milk or saliva and come in as soon as you can.
  • Bad toothache? Rinse your mouth with warm water. Floss gently to remove anything stuck between the teeth. You can also use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek to help reduce swelling.
  • Lost crown or filling? Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. Dental wax can help cover sharp edges until we can restore it properly.
